Serving Florida · Statewide telehealth

Telehealth Therapist
in Gainesville

Gainesville has excellent local mental health resources through UF, Shands, and the private practice community. For those who prefer secure video sessions from home, and a therapist whose calendar is completely separate from the university system, this Florida-statewide telehealth practice may be a fit. I'm June Pittman, MS, LMHC, based in West Palm Beach and licensed to serve English-speaking clients anywhere in Florida.

Who I see here

Therapy for
Gainesville residents

Gainesville schedules are shaped by rotations, semesters, and research cycles that do not respect a standard weekly clinic hour. Telehealth flexes with that reality. Downtown, University Avenue, Haile Plantation, Tioga, Jonesville, Duckpond . sessions happen from your own space using a HIPAA-compliant video platform. Sessions are 60 minutes.

How telehealth works from Gainesville

Secure video,
from your space

For students, residents, faculty, and staff, the biggest practical difference telehealth makes is separation from campus. A therapist outside the UF or Shands system means no risk of running into your therapist in a hallway or a Publix, and no shared records with your program. Evening and lunch-hour slots are available for schedules where a standard weekday hour is not workable. What to expect in the first session →

About the area

A note on
Gainesville

Gainesville is a university town shaped by academic and clinical rhythms most other Florida cities do not share. The population grows and shrinks with the semester. Careers move on cohort timelines, not calendar ones. There is a real bench of therapists in town, both in private practice and through UF Counseling & Wellness Center, and both are worth knowing about. Telehealth from outside the local network can offer an additional layer of privacy when your program, department, or supervisor is closely networked with the local clinical community.

Popular Gainesville neighborhoods and zip codes: Downtown Gainesville, Duckpond, University area, Haile Plantation, Tioga, Jonesville, Kanapaha, Millhopper, and the broader Alachua County corridor. Common zips: 32601, 32603, 32605, 32606, 32607, 32608, 32609, 32611, 32612, 32641, 32653.

Not on the list? Sessions are Florida-wide via secure video, so any address in the state works.

A note on fit

Fit matters more
than convenience

Gainesville has strong local resources through UF, Shands, and area private practice. If a closer geographic fit, an in-network campus provider, or a specialization outside my scope would serve you better, I will happily point you toward one. Fit matters more than proximity.

Common questions

Frequently asked
about Gainesville

How does telehealth therapy work if I live in Gainesville?

60-minute sessions on a HIPAA-compliant video platform. You join from anywhere in Alachua County, your apartment near campus, an office at UF Health Shands, or a quiet room during a study break. Browser link, no installs, works across devices.

Do you work with UF graduate students, faculty, or medical residents?

Yes. Graduate and professional students, faculty, postdocs, and residents at UF and UF Health Shands are welcome. Sessions can flex around semester rhythms, exam blocks, rotations, and academic-calendar changes. If your care is confidential-with-employer sensitive, private telehealth is often a better fit than on-campus counseling.

Do you accept insurance for Gainesville area clients?

Yes, I am in-network with Aetna, Ascension SmartHealth, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, and Florida Blue. If you are on UF student health insurance, check your plan details. Superbill provided for out-of-network reimbursement. Sliding scale available for self-pay.

Can we schedule around rotations, exam weeks, or research deadlines?

Yes. Academic and clinical schedules rarely fit a standard weekly slot cleanly. We can pause and resume, shift to biweekly during heavy weeks, or find evening slots when your daytime hours are locked. Consistency matters more than same-time-every-week rigidity.

How do I book a first session?

Book a free 15-minute consultation through the booking page. It runs on secure video, no forms and no commitment for the intro call. If we are a fit after that, we schedule the first full 60-minute session and I send you the paperwork through SimplePractice.

Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person?

Yes, for most people. A large body of research shows that video-based therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief work. As an LMHC I do not prescribe medication, so if a session ever surfaces something that would need medication support, I coordinate a referral to a psychiatrist or PCP.

Ready to talk?
Start with a free consult.

15 minutes on secure video, no forms and no commitment. The consult is usually enough to answer the practical questions about scheduling, insurance, and whether the fit feels right.
