Veterans &
Military
You showed up for others. Now it’s time to show up for yourself — with a provider who actually understands military culture.
What It Is
Understanding the
military experience
The military shapes how people think, communicate, process emotions, and ask for help — and most civilian therapists are not trained to recognize or work within that framework. Cultural mismatches in therapy waste time and erode trust.
The challenges that follow service — reintegration, hypervigilance, moral injury, identity shifts, relationship strain, and combat-related PTSD — require a provider who understands the context, not just the symptoms.
June’s Approach
Military Cultural
Competence Tier 1
June holds Military Cultural Competence Tier 1 Certification (2024), meaning she has completed specialized training in the values, structure, stressors, and norms of military service. She understands the language, the hierarchy, the stigma around seeking help, and the unique pressures on service members and their families.
June is also CPT-trained — the gold-standard treatment for combat and service-related PTSD. You will not have to explain your world before the real work begins.
A gentle frame
Why this work is also about gaman
Gaman — the Japanese virtue of enduring with patient, dignified strength — is a quality most service members and their families already embody. The work in therapy isn’t to dismantle it; it’s to distinguish between the chosen endurance that serves you and the reflexive “tough it out” that keeps you from ever putting the weight down. Strength is not the opposite of support.

Veteran & military
questions I hear most
What is Military Cultural Competence Tier 1 certification, and why does it matter?
I hold this foundational certification to ensure I deeply understand the distinct elements of military culture, language, ranks, and the unique lifecycle stressors faced by service members and their families. It matters because it allows me to bridge the veteran-civilian divide and deliver culturally competent care without making you explain basic military life to me.
Do you take TRICARE, and if not, how do veterans use insurance?
I am fully credentialed with TRICARE; however, my new private practice location is currently being added to my official credentialing roster. While that administrative update processes, I can provide you with a superbill (a detailed receipt) to submit directly to TRICARE for reimbursement, or you can utilize your out-of-network benefits.
Can I see you if I am also getting care through the VA?
Yes, you can absolutely receive private therapy with me while using VA services, as they are completely separate healthcare systems. If you prefer to have your care coordinated, I can set up a release of information to ensure your VA providers and I are aligned on your goals.
How is CPT for combat-related trauma different from CPT for other traumas?
While the core protocol I use is structurally the same, my combat-related CPT heavily focuses on specific "stuck points" unique to the military experience. I use it to target moral injury, intense survivor's guilt, and the complex transition from a combat zone back to civilian life.
Do you work with active-duty personnel, or only veterans?
I proudly work with both active-duty service members and veterans in my practice. Because active-duty care sometimes requires specific command referrals or service-readiness considerations depending on your TRICARE plan, I will review your specific coverage and privacy preferences during our initial consultation.
